Day 15...Watching in Silence...

Hi Friends and Family,

This morning several of us went to observe some of the various church services held on a typical Sunday at Ft. Jackson. The purpose of this assignment is for each Chaplain to observe the various types of worship soldiers may choose to encounter. The first service was a Mormon service. The leaders were friendly and the service was well attended. (Probably over 100 soldiers in the chapel.) I've never attended a Mormon worship service and I sat silently as the service progressed. I've had many Mormon friends in my life and I thought about them as I sat in the church building. It really stretched many of us who are from a Protestant tradition but the experience was helpful to understand how many of our soldiers believe...

The second service we attended was a Roman Catholic worship service. This one was very well attended. (Probably several hundred civilians and soldiers alike.)

This afternoon was spent packing for our week in the field ahead. We turn in our duffel bag tomorrow and head to the field on Tuesday. Our platoon got in trouble due to some failing to shave and wear proper socks...200 overhead arm claps...ouch!!!

Sgt. Strachan (pronounced STRONG) teaching us how to pack our duffel bag before our trip to the field. After I took the picture he asked me if I was a tourist! You don't want to mess with him but I've got to get some pictures right? :)

The group packing up for the night.
Happy Father's Day!

On the day you made your Dad a Dad for the second time, your Grandma Jessie flew into Milwaukee from Wyoming. When your Dad met her at the airport she said he was crying and saying over and over again, "I can't believe I have a son!" Now, after all these years, he's still amazed at the blessings his sons (and daughters) bring. Now we're so happy to be able to say Happy Father's Day to you, son! We love your little ones so much. How happy they make us. We pray God will continue to bless you and keep you as you continue your training. Love you, Mom
