Day 7...Facing Fear...

Today was a fun day at Chaplain Initial boot camp. We had the morning off to do laundry and schoolwork and met at 2:50 for our march to Victory Tower. I'm thankful we had time to sleep in today because my body was feeling the pain from the last several days. The march was only about 1 1/2 miles so it didn't seem too bad. What made it more challenging was the weight of the body armor and canteens we had to carry along. Being a road guard I had to run at times to relieve the road guard ahead of me to block cars from interrupting our march. (Not fun in this uniform!) The instructors in charge here are passionate about us drinking water which is good for the heat of S.C.

Once at Victory Tower we got to climb and descend a massive platform...It felt like recess with ropes attached. I had to deal with a little fear as I peered over the edge of the tower but just jumped backward and had a great time soaring down to the ground. No problem! Just like living an episode of Survivor.

At 8 p.m. we marched home. I went to dinner with a few of the guys at a good Mexican restaurant and now am looking forward to church tomorrow. The base Chaplain asked if any of us played drums (for the chapel worship team) so it looks like I might be helping out with the team.

We report tomorrow evening in our PT uniforms, helmet and rucksack so I expect another march to get the week started.
Lots of love to you all!
