Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer...

Hi Family and Friends,

To quote the well known philosopher, Robert Palmer: "Some like it hot and some sweat when the heat is on...Some feel the heat and decide that they cant go on...Some like it hot, but you cant tell how hot til you try...Some like it hot, so lets turn up the heat til we fry. Some like it hot... some like it hot!" Now that I've got that song stuck in your head let's all be thankful that "Global Warming" is a myth and rejoice in the fact that the cool air of fall is right around the corner. Isn't it great that God has given us seasons?

I love fall for several reasons... 1. I love the smell of fireplaces and the sound of crackling leaves on a brisk afternoon walk. (Makes you want to put a sweater on doesn't it? Well...maybe not today...97 degrees outside!!!) 2. I love the nervous look on the face of the neighborhood kids as they count down the remaining days till school begins (always reminds me of going shopping with mom, dad, and the siblings at J.C. Penney for a set of new clothes for the school year ahead.) And finally... 3. I love football season!!!! On September 1st I'm taking my dad for his birthday to the season opener for the Wyoming Cowboys against the University of Virginia in Laramie. I can't wait for giant turkey legs, listening to the "Cowboy Joe" song and most of all watching the smallest state (population wise) redeem last season's botched extra point attempt with a win!!!! Tonight the Broncos play their first preseason game and Christina and I plan to travel to Nana and Papa's to see the first half...should be fun to see the new young quarterback play a little.

Last week was uneventful but wonderful. We bought the kids a "slip and slide" and played in the water at night. The kids love to get wet and so does dad! It was great to spend a lot of quality family time together...(see pictures below)

For an answer to prayer, I was notified that the Colorado Guard will help pay for school this year (Praise the Lord!!!). The financial help will take the edge off of my final year of school. (One more year and two additional classes!!!! Don't give up now Dave!)

The highlight of the week was Friday through Sunday when we spent time in Loveland with Grandma and Grandpa and in Thornton with Nana and Papa. The kids are fortunate to have grandparents who love them and so are we! We ate too much good food and had more quality family time. We also got to see Uncle Mike, Aunt Rachel and Porter...our nephew who grows every time we see him. (Thanks Mike for the quilt rack and peaches...they are awesome!) On Sunday morning we visited a church with Christina's folks. (They were trying to find a church for themselves around the Loveland area and we tagged along.) It was a sweet service and I was touched by the pastor's message...I'm going to try to be more loving after hearing that message.
This morning I had an interview with the VA hospital in downtown Denver for an intern position for my master's in counseling. It looks promising as I've been asked to come back for a follow-up interview next week. I have more training this week for the honor's funeral program with the Guard and in just two weeks I start school. Oh my...the summer is melting away! On August 31st we will be moving to a location closer to the school and Christina's work. We are excited for the change and have been busy getting the house ready for the move.

God has been good and we hope you all are doing well...
