Hi Family and Friends,
It has been quite awhile since I shared my heart with you...Christina has done such a good job of updating the family blog with pictures and highlights of the last several months and I wanted to share an update of what is happening on this journey to one day pin on the cross. Graduating from Denver Seminary in December was a big step in this process of becoming a military chaplain. My packet is now before the board at the National Guard Bureau to be approved/disapproved. They will consider my background, previous ministry experience, PT score, grades from grad school, senior chaplain's interview and more to decide if I'm a good fit for becoming a chaplain. If they approve my packet in February I hope to have a ceremony before my battalion, the 2/135th Aviation Battalion, where family and friends can come to Buckley Air Force Base to celebrate the moment with me. The last three years have been quite a journey...God has been faithful.
In March, the family will join me as I complete my final weeks of Officer training in South Carolina. I can't wait to show Herbie and Allie my second home at Ft. Jackson. (Christina and Bowman have already visited but my heart will be so full to have them join me for the final portion of this training.) Mom and Dad Nagel and Mom and Dad Niehues will drive and fly down in April to celebrate my graduation. The state Chaplain and my mentor here in the Colorado Guard will also fly down to celebrate this moment with us...we are so excited! The 47 days I have remaining here are focused on physical training and exercise...please pray that I have the perseverance to pass this final PT test.
My full time job continues to go well as a supervisor of human resources. I learn more everyday and enjoy the interaction with the people who need our help in Colorado. Tomorrow I drive to Ft. Carson to train supervisors in labor relations...should be a fun trip.
God has been so good to us and we are thankful for all of you and your encouragement on the way...
Blessings,
Dave

Keep up the good work. I'm proud to call you my brother.
We're very proud of you and all the hard work it's taken to get to this place in your life. We're also proud of Christina for being the strong support you've needed. We can hardly wait for South Carolina. What a fun time that will be. Do we really need our swim suits? Love you
Best wishes with the Chaplain Boards. Don't sweat it! If they let a TULIP believing fool like me become a chaplain, then a Denver Seminary grad like yourself should have no problems. Still mad that you are completing CHBOLC before me! You suck a holy egg!!!
