Great To Be Home...

Hi Family and Friends,

The train at Denver International Airport seemed like it would never arrive. I knew that just a short ride away I would get to see my family. It had been six weeks since seeing Herbie and Allie and I couldn't wait to grab Christina and the kids to embrace them as my family. (I miss the days of innocence before 9/11 when loved ones could meet you as soon as you got off the plane!!)

Now the moment I had been waiting for...Up an escalator and there was mom, dad, my sister, and Christina and the kids waving American flags and looking beautiful. The crowd was patient and even happy as I blocked the path of traffic to whirl Herbie and Allie around in the air.

Here are a few pictures of our reunion:

My Three Favorite People in the World!

As I was sitting on the plane waiting to get off in Denver I was touched when the airline host for United Airlines came, shook my hand, and thanked me for my service to the country...this made the people around me ask a lot of questions. "Did you just get back from Iraq?" "What do you think about the war?" "Did you have a job before you joined the Army?" "Thanks for what you are doing!" My responses were simple: I just came back from six weeks away from home. Yes, I had a wonderful job before joining the Army. I miss my kids but nothing I have been through is even close to what our troops are facing everyday as we fight this war. Many are now away from family and the security of home for 15 months or more... My "political" view of this war is that we have a lot of soldiers who need encouragement, love and help for their faith...that is why I want to be a chaplain. "But what do you think about this war?" I'm proud to serve my country and my heart is heavy for the young men and women currently putting their lives on the line for our freedom...

May God be with our troops...

Thanks for following my journey to Chaplain Basic Officer Leadership Course at Ft. Jackson in South Carolina... It's been fun sharing my daily adventures with you. My love for Jesus Christ is the reason I can trust God no matter where this ministry path takes my family. I'll try to keep you posted with fun tidbits from our life every week or so until my next adventure...
Check in to see where the journey takes us next...

Dave
