Arrived Safely in South Carolina...

Hi Family and Friends,

I arrived safely at Ft. Jackson and am getting settled into my room. The journey here was fine. I bumped into a friend from last year's camp in the airport in Atlanta and sat next to a young private, home on emergency leave, on the flight from Atlanta to Columbia, S.C. I was able to get to know him a bit as I gave him a ride to Ft. Jackson. When I walked into the welcome center to book my housing the lady said, "You must be here for the chaplain school!" I asked her how she knew that and she said she just knew by looking at me....? I must not look like a special forces soldier. :)

It is amazingly hot and humid here. It is hard to describe what it feels like unless you've been here. Colorado is blessed with great weather! It is going to be 102 degrees tomorrow so we have all been ordered to drink a lot of water this week. At orientation this afternoon I recognized a lot of faces from last year and a fellow student from Denver Seminary. A lot of friendly folks...

I went to the comissary to get groceries for the week and spent the rest of the evening unpacking and getting organized for the days ahead. I got put in older housing this year but I'm thankful to be on base...the base is overloaded with soldiers right now and many had to stay up to half an hour away off base. Not fun! I worked on my pushups and situps and will start PT tomorrow morning at 5 a.m. Please be praying for me to peak physically this Thursday or Friday when we take a PT test for record. If I don't pass, I will get no weekend passes and will have to do double PT during the day!!! Fat camp! :) Christina is scheduled to fly down here with Bowman soon and I'd hate to tell her we can't leave the base because I couldn't pass my test...I WILL DO IT!!!

Well...bed for now...Thank you Jesus!

Much love to you all.

Dave
