I couldn't believe how nervous I was this morning as we lined up in the field to take our PT test. It was 4:30 a.m. and the muggy morning air made me feel like I was in a foreign place... The test was announced last night as an APFT to measure everyone's fitness level for the future PT "test for record" in a few weeks. I wasn't happy with this news. I begged the drill SGTs to let me take this one for record so I could have one under my belt before I leave in a few weeks and this morning they let me know that they would: "Nagel...your test this morning will be for record!" As I was standing in line for my turn for push-ups and sit-ups I had a thought cross my mind..."What if I can't pass? I'm the only one here out of 160 Chaplains and Chaplain Candidates doing this for a permanent record...what if I can't get my situps in?" I'm now thankful for all of those early morning runs... I passed all three events and hit my goals. I ran the 2 mile run in 14:30 and shaved over a minute off of my time from last year.
My score last year: 207. Today: 244! The State Chaplain for the Colorado Guard emailed me today after hearing about my test score and said I now "qualify" to be a Special Forces Chaplain if I ever attempt to fill that slot. You have to have a minumum of 240 on the PT test to work as a Special Forces Chaplain.
The best part of my day came a few minutes ago when I picked up Christina and Bowman at the airport for a long weekend together. What a beautiful sight seeing her walk down the hall...Bowman looks bigger after one week!
We will drive to Charleston on the coast for the day tommorow and come back to enjoy Columbia all day Sunday.
Thanks for your prayers!
